How booker email confirmation and 24-hour holds work

Bookers confirm their email before a booking counts, and a hold they never confirm lapses after 24 hours.

Updated

Booker email confirmation keeps made-up addresses off your calendar. It is on by default, under Booking page → Booker email confirmation. Household and business pages have their own copy of the setting, which applies whichever member a booking lands with.

What happens when someone books

  1. The slot is held straight away, so nobody else can take it.
  2. The booker sees Almost there and gets an email with a Confirm this booking button. They have 24 hours to click it.
  3. Until they do, you are not emailed and nothing is written to your calendar. The hold is listed on Bookings under Awaiting the booker's email confirmation.
  4. When they click, it goes ahead as a fresh booking would: confirmed, with the confirmation and invite to both of you, or, if the meeting type requires your approval, a request for you to accept.

What happens if a booker never confirms?

After 24 hours the hold lapses and the time frees up on its own. The booker gets a Hold expired email, with a link to pick a new time when the page is still live. You are never notified, because the booking never existed as far as your calendar is concerned.

Who skips the confirmation step?

Bookers signed in to a LineMerge account with a verified email skip the step. A signed-in booker can also confirm a hold from My bookings. A weekly series needs one click for all its weeks. Turn the setting off to accept every booking straight away.
